A Song, A Dance, but No Show Plan?

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.—Two months into the fall semester, the Marist College Theater Program continues to have a murky future regarding their spring musical. They have changed their musical of choice twice, from West Side Story to The King and I.  The original choice for the Spring Musical 2018 slot had been Fiddler on the Roof, but had to be changed on account of losing the rights with the show currently touring.  From there the program went in the West Side Story direction, a decision that was later changed to the current show The King and I, and an update as of October 17, 2017 at 10:00 am it was announced that the musical is will not be

Director of the Theater Program, as well as Director of the Spring Musical, Matt Andrews, was available for commentary on the previous show choice for the spring, the main focus being the Golden Era musical.

Neil Simon Classics are Coming to Marist College this Fall

Poughkeepsie, New York– Marist College Club of Theater Arts (MCCTA) will be entertaining audiences with two back to back Neil Simon plays on the Nelly Goletti stage this coming fall. Jim Steinmeyer has been in charge of directing the fall mainstage plays at Marist College for the past nine years. This year, however, Matt Andrews, associate professor of English/Theatre, will also be sharing the limelight with Steinmeyer as a director.

MCCTA: A driving force on campus

At Marist College, there are a great many clubs, 95 to be exact, that students participate in on a daily basis. Whether this be to receive those precious Priority Points to get good housing or simply for the love of the ideals presented in the club, it is clear to see that the Marist community feels that student clubs and organizations are an important part of college life. Of all the clubs on campus, however, one organization praises itself as the club with the most active membership of them all.

This club is the Marist College Club of the Theater Arts, or as it is most commonly known, MCCTA. Why is this organization such a force on campus you may ask? Well, a look into the club’s past and how it has evolved is the first step to answering this question. Continue reading
