On Wednesday, November 2nd, the Chicago Cubs proved that anyone can come back and win on the world’s biggest stage. That following Tuesday, November 8th, Donald Trump did what was also thought to be impossible, by becoming the 45th president of the United States.
As election day got closer and closer, the media, and therefore the public, depended more and more on polling predictions and data visualization, often using digital savvy maps and charts to illustrate the many winning paths Hillary Clinton had, and the many obstacles Trump would have to face. It was safe to say that there was an overwhelming consensus amongst pollsters and data journalists that Hillary Clinton would emerge victorious Tuesday night. However, what was supposed to be a relatively early election night, ended up being a late night apocalypse, leaving people across the country wondering, how the hell did this happen? Have you ever just felt so stressed about a test the next day that you just want to relieve that tension with some restaurant-style pizzas or cheeseburgers without leaving campus? That is where GrubHub has got you covered, GrubHub is an online and mobile food-ordering company that connects its users with restaurants in their local areas. According to The Wall Street Journal the company went public in April 2014 and has achieved an increasing profit by charging restaurants a commission on order booked through its service. People in the Marist community were asked if they ever used GrubHub and many replied that they hadn’t really ever used the service. If you’re part of the Marist student body or faculty and searching for other alternatives from Sodexo food here are some reasons GrubHub is the right choice.
Nursery rhymes don’t necessarily need to be for kids. Secrets being shared with everyone absolutely still applies today, and while I might not be uncovering any government conspiracies, I have the next best thing; food. Food is one of those things that is mutually understood in any friendship or relationship, but can also cause and solve problems. Food is also typically better when there is a solid variety to choose from. This is what makes “secret menus” at restaurants so fascinating. Not only do people love getting the inside scoop, they love food too.
There are a lot of reasons to choose Marist College for your education, but why for Hockey?
The hockey team is full of players majoring in all different subjects and areas, but they all have one thing in common and that is playing the game they love.
“We all get along very well. We are a family at the end of the day no matter what obstacles get thrown at us,” said junior Vincent Masters.
With less than 200 days until graduation, seniors at Marist College must begin to prepare for the real world. For those graduating a semester early this December, that time is much shorter. It’s tough in all fields when it comes to finding job opportunities, but there are ways to set yourself apart from the rest of the competition.
Here are five tips that several students agreed on to help fellow students entering the workplace and how to make themselves a positive applicant for a job opportunity. Continue reading
Fighting through a semester with a hard professor is a right of passage in college.
Often before meeting a difficult professor, anxious students depend on RatemyProfessor’s 1 to 5 rating scale and other student’s comments to set the precedent for the class.
But you don’t need RatemyProfessor to find a brutally honest opinion about Zu-Hsu Lee, or who business majors better know as Professor Jason Lee. In fact, many of his students were in utter disbelief, and even took issue with the validity of his ratings, “There is no way this many students have had a positive experience in his class. He must have written these reviews himself.” said senior business major Harrison Felman.
After years and years of campaigns, debates, and nasty Facebook posts shared between relatives, November 8th, our national election day, is finally here. And for many Marist students who have never voted in an election before, the feelings on taking their first steps in civic engagement are certainly…mixed.
Based on data found on Fairvote.org, 60 percent of the US population voted in the previous Presidential election. But among younger voters in the age range of 18 to 29, the voter turnout has certainly been lacking. For the past 40 years of Presidential elections, this age group has turned out to the polls on Election Day at a rate 15 to 20 points lower than citizens 30 years and older, with no sign of this trend being curbed in a positive manner.
PepsiCo. Inc, the maker of Gatorade decided to go organic with the release of their new version of all-natural sports drinks, G Organic, this past September because they feel many amateur athletes are swaying more to the organic side rather than the sugary side when it comes to sports drinks. PepsiCo Inc. stated that G Organic will consist of seven ingredients: water, organic cane sugar, citric acid, organic natural flavor, sea salt, sodium citrate and potassium chloride and nothing else. G Organic, however, still has the above normal amount of sugar, across Marist, student-athletes and students input their view and choices of drinking a sports beverage or just water before competition or exercise.
“We want people to understand that the Brother’s transferred the college to an original group of people that they trusted,” said Brother Francis Kelly Director of Campus Ministry at Marist College.
In 1905 the history of Marist College began, when the Marist Brothers purchased the McPherson estate, which included 44-acres of land, then in 1908 the Beck estate was purchased, together the two purchases include the 110-acres that formed the main campus of what is now Marist College. Senior year, as in the last year of undergraduate college is a time to never forget. From turning 21, to having real world internships and job offers, there is an array of differing life changes that go on for each individual.
